Selected Interventions: Craft Studies and Adamson-Eric

The supplementary pop-up exhibition to the museum’s permanent display was created in collaboration with the master’s course of Craft Studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Eight young artists from very diverse backgrounds have produced new works that draw, in one way or another, on the legacy of Adamson-Eric. During the exhibition’s preparation, the students studied the museum’s collections and display in depth and selected, according to their interests, a work, theme or method that they reinterpreted within their own creative practice. This process resulted in new pieces that intervene in, yet simultaneously engage in dialogue with, the existing display, re-framing historical heritage through contemporary perspectives.

Each new generation discovers something fresh and inspiring in Adamson-Eric’s legacy, and this is how we build bridges between the past and the future. For young artists, exhibiting their works in a museum is an important experience in shaping their artistic careers.

The Craft Studies curriculum brings together people with diverse backgrounds and deep creative interest, offering space for interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme broadens the understanding of hands-on creative work, develops critical thinking and supports artistic research, as materials, processes, ideas and identities intertwine in the context of contemporary art. Like Adamson-Eric, the students work with a wide range of materials: from metal and clay to paint, textiles and conceptual installations. Their creations are grounded in skilled material sensitivity and conceptual thinking.

The exhibition will be open until 15 February 2026.
