Sirje Helme to continue as Chief Executive Officer of the Art Museum of Estonia Foundation for a further two years

Sirje Helme has served as Director General of the Art Museum of Estonia since 2009

The Supervisory Board of the Art Museum of Estonia Foundation decided by consensus that Sirje Helme will continue as Chief Executive Officer of the Art Museum of Estonia Foundation for a further two years, in line with the candidate’s preferred contract length.

An open competition was held to appoint the Chief Executive Officer. Before making its decision, the Supervisory Board met with the three candidates who took part. The Chair of the Board, Paavo Nõgene, said he was pleased that the competition had attracted strong candidates.

“In deciding to support the continuation of Sirje Helme, the Supervisory Board attached decisive weight to her achievements to date in presenting Estonian art to wider audiences both in Estonia and abroad, as well as to her vision for the management needs of the Art Museum of Estonia over the coming years in highly volatile geopolitical and economic conditions. Sirje Helme will continue for two years and will then hand the role over to the next Chief Executive,” said Paavo Nõgene.

Sirje Helme has served as Director General of the Art Museum of Estonia since 2009, and as Chief Executive Officer of the Art Museum of Estonia Foundation since 2016. Prior to that, she was Director of the Kumu Art Museum, worked at the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art as both Project Manager and Director, and held various positions at the Kunst publishing house.

The Art Museum of Estonia is an institution comprised of five museums: the Kumu Art Museum, Kadriorg Art Museum, Mikkel Museum, Niguliste Museum and Adamson-Eric Museum.
