On 17 November, the Art Museum of Estonia celebrates its 105th birthday. To mark the occasion, the exhibition From Mittens to Köler: The Birth of the Museum’s Collection at the Kadriorg Art Museum offers a concise look back at the museum’s beginnings, and the programme of Curiosity Day, initiated by the President of Estonia, includes special guided tours.

According to Chief Executive Officer Sirje Helme, the Art Museum of Estonia, celebrating its 105th anniversary, is an organisation with long traditions, and with great potential for development and success, “It has been a pleasure to watch the team at work: capable colleagues who love their profession have, through their ideas and vigour, grown the museum into a place where art really is art and a place which is visited by local residents and tourists alike, from children to the elderly. With exhibitions, research, audience programmes, nice shops and beautiful books, this is a space for art that is always worth coming to!” said Sirje Helme.

Since September, the exhibition From Mittens to Köler: The Birth of the Museum’s Collection at the Kadriorg Art Museum has introduced the history of the development of the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia from its founding in 1919 until World War II.

On Sunday, 17 November, art lovers will be able to participate in special tours at all of the branches of the Art Museum of Estonia located in Kadriorg, which are also part of the Curiosity Day programme initiated by the President of Estonia.

The Kadriorg Art Museum will host short tours at the exhibition From Mittens to Köler: The Birth of the Museum’s Collection, where visitors can hear fascinating stories, see rare works of art and artefacts that are not often exhibited in art museums. The English-language tour, led by the Kadriorg Art Museum curator Kerttu Männiste, starts at 4 p.m..

On Wednesday, 20 November, at 6 p.m., Erki Kasemets will open his installation LIFE-FILE (1989–2024) in the atrium of the Kumu Art Museum and a conversation with the artist will take place. The installation is a gift to the museum from the Art Museum of Estonia Friends of Art Society for the museum’s 105th anniversary.
